musescore 4.4 - 4.4.2 is not working
Splash screen appears on screen, but musescore studio doesn't run after the splash screen goes off.
This problem happens repeatedly since 4.4 update.
I've tried several methods (installing on musehub, installing without musehub, reverting musescore studio to factory settings ...), and it still doesn't work.
I also tried installing one of previous version(4.3.2) that worked before, but it maked same problem above after this issue happened first.

You could try installing the test version of 4.4.3 to see if it fixes your problem. See https://musescore.org/en/4.4.3-rc

Version 4.4.3 was released yesterday. https://musescore.org/en/4.4.3
Have you downloaded it yet?
The alternative is to do this: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/revert-factory-settings#Reverting_t…

Curious. I have 2 machines running Windows11, everything is fine. Have you done the Windows11 updates? And the other programs, other than MuseScore, how are they behaving?

I checked if i missed windows updates - but i didn't missed any.
Other programs normally open.
(I maybe did something wrong only on my Musescore Studio I guess...)

When the splash screen goes off, does the Windows task manager show MuseScore as running?
Is MuseScore studio being directed to a second monitor that is presently disconnected?
Perhaps the window is off-screen and not showing.

I launched Musescore studio with Windows task manager opened and checked all items of "apps" and "background processes".
I couldn't find any Musescore-related programs running.
I've never used second monitor - but It made sense that the monitor setting somehow unwantedly changed and might be causing this issue, so I checked by Windows key+P.
It was on its default setting: it said there was only one monitor I was looking at and not another.
I have the same problem, in that when I click on "Open" the splash screen will appear, saying Musescore is "loading", but it never actually opens (although the icon will show in my taskbar of my MacBook laptop). I eventually have to force quit Musescore.
However, this "won't Open" issue started a few weeks ago, before the update, even though I have been using Musescore for a number of years.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times, bt always the same "it won't Open" problem.
How do I get this resolved?

Reinstalling almost never helps. Try reverting it to factory settings, if need be from the command line

Thank you, but I'm afraid I don't understand. I can't open get MuseScore to open, so I can't change anything in it.
And could you please explain "what" should I "revert to factory settings"?
And how would I do that from the command line ( and how do I find the command line)?
Thanks, David.

I had similar problems and posted on forum 4 or 5 days ago. Received this little window: The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.
Today, I had a revelation! Delete all earlier versions of MuseScore and download a clean copy of 4.3.x I had in my downloads folder. It opened and ran correctly including numpad which I had lost. I then did the upgrade to 4.4.3 and it also opened properly. All seems fine. I sure hated using the keyboard numbers to input note values!

I have same issue and I tried lots of attempts. But any of them wasn't working.
I tried your recommendations but 4.3.x installation leads same phenomenon... ( - brief flash but no start...)
Do you know some other option?
Thank you for your recommendation.

I think the important part of my description is completely deleting your v. 4.x.x files. I have a handy little app called appzapper that digs out all the supporting files as well the main app file for deletion. After doing that, the early 4.x versions which I had as .DMZ files in my Downloads folder installed and were upgradeable. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ashley for the suggestion; but I'm afraid it didn't work for me. I downloaded app zapper, deleted all files, shut down the laptop. But when I re-opened and downloaded a fres version of MuseScore it was the same old problem; I click onOpen, but I just get a MuseScore window saying "loading", but the little coloured wheel just keeps whirling around and it never actually opens. I have to eventually force quit. I've tried resetting to factory settings, and everything else that has been suggested above, but still nothing is working.
And I paid for the MuseScore sheet music package, but can't use it to edit anything in any way!
Any more ideas, anyone?

"And I paid for the MuseScore sheet music package, but can't use it to edit anything in any way!"
Well, the MuseScore Studio notation editor is entirely free, so that was perhaps an unnecessary expense. But this is the right place to sort out your problems with getting MuseScore Studio to work.
a) Are you sure that you downloaded the correct software?
See: https://musescore.org/en/download
b) Are you sure that your computer meets the minimum system specification?

Thanks Daniel, but that still didn't work.
I used app zapper to delete all of the most recently downloaded MuseScore files, then used your link. I went through all the stages of "enable" and "permissions" etc,, then, from muse hub, downloaded MuseScore Studio, but as soon as I clicked on Open, it was back to the pop-up window saying "loading" but it never actually gets beyond that.
I had been using MuseScore for a few years, but a few months ago it suddenly stopped "opening" and I have been trying since to resolve it. Unsuccessfully.
I mistakenly paid for the MuseScore sheet music package because I mistakenly thought that it was possibly because I had a "free" version" that was the reason I couldn't suddenly open it, and that I was purchasing a more comprehensive notation software package. I now realise I was totally mistaken in that.

One thing that comes to mind is this:
Do you have a printer that is disconnected, or that may be on a network which is presently inaccessible?

Didn't work. I checked the printer/ network was connected (even tried it with a cable connection), but it made no difference. MuseScore Studio still won't Open.
What next anyone?
Thanks.

How are you launching Musescore? I seem to recall a problem a while back where under some circumstances it would launch if you clicked on an .mscz file but not otherwise (click on the .exe file or a desktop item etc.).
In reply to How are you launching… by SteveBlower
All the usual ways on a Mac. Click icon in the dock, double click an .mscz file in the finder and drag an .mxl file to the dock icon.
In reply to All the usual ways on a Mac… by ashley5992
I'm afraid none of those work. I've tried clicking on the MuseScore icon in the dock; tried clicking on the app within Muse Hub; tried double-clicking an .mscz file; tried dragging an .mxi file to the dock icon; tried app zapper then reinstalling;; tried resetting to factory settings. Same result; a MuseScore "loading" pop-up window, but it never gets beyond the endlessly spinning coloured wheel.
Did anybody solve this problem? Please help us.

FWIW I had a similar issue with one of my W10 machines.
I had to go through a rather lengthy process.
After moving my scores folder off the computer I did this:
1. Un-install MuseScore and the HUB.
2. I ran a search of my hard drive for MuseScore. No idea how to do that on a Mac.
3. I deleted all the files that came up. Maybe the app zapper found everything. Maybe not.
4. Did the same thing for the HUB.
5. Restart computer.
6. Install MuseScore from the download page. Not the HUB.
7. Restart computer before trying to open MuseScore.
8. Hopefully MU4 opens. If so start the process of installing the HUB, and sounds.
9. My suggestion for the HUB is to, after it is installed, go to settings and turn everything off. You don't need it running to use MU4. I only turn it on once in a while to check for updates.
Good luck. Aren't computers fun? (Hint) NO :)
Y'know, composing back then is way easier than today... Did you have glitches, saving failure, file loss, infinite load, publish failure, drive shutdown, and corrupt files on staff paper? I've written music from a 100% blank sheet of paper, printer paper! I hand drew the staves/lines, notes, absolutely EVERYTHING and it was EASY! All with pencil. You should try that and mail it to different countries (Haha, just kidding but, maybe give it a shot! You never know what might just happen..)

Composing was a PITA when I was young. I had to either buy special paper or draw my own staves. To share a score or just ask someone to have a look at it I had to take a train into the city, walk up 144 steps and then get a bus to their place. Now, I can copy a score to several safe locations in seconds or send it around the world and I couldn't do that with paper. My music files do not suffer from coffee-stained rings. I don't arrive at a venue only to find that I have forgotten a particular score. If I posted my scores from the UK to the US today I would rapidly become bankrupt (£10.75/US$13.70 for a small score). Also, digital files do not smell of smoke the morning after a gig.

Thanks bobjp, tried all of that, but still not working. Infuriating. Musescore had been working fine for years, then sudden;y stopped working (click on Open, then get the splash screen, but Musescore never actually opens). Despite all of the suggestions above, Musescore will not still open on my MacBook.
