What are the two notations in the attached picture that I've marked with arrows? Thanks in advance.

First one is open hi-hat, half-open hi-hat , or bell of ride cymbal.

Bottom one is seems an alternate version of something. (Maybe hi-hat) It can be an eighth note, marked with an arrow.

It would be clearer if you could get a wider screenshot.

In the first part of the book, the notation used here is not specified?

Can you look at the beginning of the partition? This looks like a separate percussion party. Maybe it was mentioned there.

Since open and closed hi-hats are written differently, this can be half open (or pedal open) hi-hat. (Half open hi-hat, usually indicated by the symbol "Ø" in the upper part of the hi-hats; like + and o ) And, there is no need for an open symbol for the cymbals.
