Pick a score, add double barlines, try to extend them and the double barlines will fail. I
* made a score with 3 flutes, choose your instruments,
* added a random double barline,
* tried to extend the double barline and it returned to the original position
* extended a single barline and only the single barline extended.

I reported this a week ago. In this case you don't really need an example file, a polyphonic template (without extended bar lines) should suffice. Somehow you don't really get back to the starting point with Undo. If you first extend the single bar lines and then insert other types (double, dashed...) it works.

see also here (only described a bit complicated):

PS I have nevertheless added an example score

If you first extend the single bar lines and then insert other types (double, dashed, ...) it seems to work. Later added staffs, however, lead to the same behaviour again, if you want to extend bar lines again.
The score should therefore already contain all the required staves. If something goes wrong, you have to reload the score. In my experience Undo does not work properly.

Overall, the "Span to next staff" should be your workaround, just set or clear this manually as needed. But it's needed way more than necessary. Barlines get marked as non-generated and then get stuck that way with no obvious way to reset them.
