Add "Mallet Percussion" with channel switching to instruments.xml
As many of you most likely know, on scores there is usually a Mallet Percussion part that covers Xylophone, Bells, Chimes, etc. It would be convenient if you could switch the sound like you can with muted trumpets and pizzicato strings, but with the Xylophone or something. Its just more convenient than having a xylo., a bells, and a chimes part. Thank you!

You might find instrument changes suit your purposes, but I think this is a valid request.
My current thinking is that this is not needed and in fact wouldn't work well. Stringed instruments and trumpet come with these extra channels because there are no separate instruments of pizzicato strings and trumpet con sordino. But bells, marimba, vibraphone or what have you do exist as independent instruments, and thus instrument changes serve the identical purpose.
Additionally, using instrument changes creates extra channels in the Mixer as needed. The requested method would cause a large number of channels, most of which would not be used, to appear in the Mixer.
Whenever I try to use instrument changes for mallet percussion, for example switching from glock. to vibes, the music is still in the octave of the glock. instead of the vibes, which makes the notation way below the staff. How do I fix this?
See #9352: Add ability to set transposition by range. This has already been fixed for MuseScore 3. In the meantime, you can add two separate instruments to the score and hide empty staves .
In the future, it's best to start a new thread in the forums rather than asking for help on a closed feature request.
Alright thanks :)
