Sometimes you want to change instrument for reasons other than you want to change the part name.
Most of the music I am producing doesn't require part names, and to have them arbitrarily replaced byt the program when they have been specifically removed would be a major annoyance!
I agree, but there should be a way to change the part name. I tried changing a part name in File->Parts... but this is available only for parts that are about to be created.
You *can* change the part name, in Staff Properties. This affects the mixer. It does *not* affect the name displayed on the tab or the name displayed at top left of the part.

Could this be by design?
If it's not then it should be.
