Original steps no longer apply, not sure if bug can be triggered by other means.
I tried by:
- changing the instrument to Guitar (standard staff),
- create a Part and then changing the Staff Advanced props of the Part RH staff into "Tab 6-str full"
and there is no crash: the score has a standard RH staff and the part has a TAB RH staff, which was the goal of the OP, I assume.
I think restricting TAB's to applicable instruments only fixed the issue. As far as I can tell, it can be closed.

P.S.: But initial clefs are scrambled again! I fixed that months ago!!!
Werner changed significant things about clef implementation a few weeks ago. A number of bugs/regressions were introduced along the way. Known ones have been fixed, but I'll bet this as another.
Is the regression filed in the issue tracker?
I guess the problem is that upon changing the staff type to tab, the clef stays treble? Or that on the change instruments, it stayed treble rather than treble 8vb?
There have been dozens (or so it seems) of similarly but subtly different bugs reported an fixed over the past few months. I don't recall one that covered this *exactly* series of steps. Most involved changing staff type via the instruments dialog rather than the staff properties.
In fact, when I think about it, I see no special reason to think changing staff properties *should* change the clef the way changing instrument via the instruments dialog does. So I'm not sure that's even a bug.
However, I just tried changing the staff type via instruments, and the clef doesn't change if I do that either. I guess that's a bug.

I think it is in the add instruments dialog,
Opening Staff Properties in this file crashes MuseScore... But this is 1.3 score. Tablature staff type is not available for Grand Piano instrument, I didn't get how to change it.
