See attached screenshot. This is reproduced by:

  1. create a new project and add one note
  2. from Dynamics panel, add a p item to the note
  3. double click the p and edit it by appending an f
  4. although fortepiano is a quite strange dynamic, it still should look right.

I found out it was a configuration issue. By some reason the font for dynamics was set to Bravura, which I believe is not a part of MuseScore. Setting it to MScore did the trick. Don't know if this is a bug, cause I can't remember setting that font, but who knows. I close this issue but feel free to reopen it if it turns out to be a bug anyway.

Status (old) won't fix active

My impression is that Bravura *is* in fact the new default for dynamics. At least, it is on my system too, and I saw comments to that effect on IRC.

I suspect the issue is that Bravura is specificlly a music font, not a text font, so you don't access it's characters by just typing letters on a qwerty keyboard. So I suspect this may be "by design" after all, but for different reasons.

Workaround Yes

In, at least, MuseScore 3.x dynamic signs are not just normal character but special symbol. To enter them correctly, double click on the dynamic you want to change, open the Master Palette, go to the Symbols page and drag the wanted symbol to the wanted position.

Status active by design

Characters are entered as a normal text character, for example if you want to write "p subito".
In order to enter dynamic markings Ctrl + Shift + is now used, for example, to add "f" (as "forte"), just press Ctrl + Shift + f.
