2. Click on the ottava.

I don't think it's just limited to Reset.
I hid empty staves on a score and it changed.
Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (3c7498e) - Mac 10.7.5.
Reset would be "normal" somehow but we can discuss about it. Hide empty staff make it critical. Can you confirm and give exact steps to reproduce? if yes, can you bump this bug to critical? Thanks!
1. Open attached score (produced in 1.3).
2. 'Style'>'General...'.
3. Tick 'Hide empty staves'.
4. 'OK'.
Result: The text ottava has changed to a symbol.

About the strange ottava presentation in #3, see this: #22869: Ottava appear incorrect
When I exported a MusicXML (attached - using the score at the top) and imported it, the ottava appears as a symbol.
Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (06153cf) - Mac 10.7.5.
Changing the font (from Emmentaler to Bravura) changes the symbol too.
At the moment, both mscz scores display no number upon 'Reset'.
Undo doesn't restore the former state.
Also: I just realised that the line changes to dashed (see the image of the first example).

I'm gonna bump this up, cause this is still an issue in the latest Nightly 1908-dbac0f2.
Here how I'm able to recreate the similar issue to what is described in this thread:
1. Load attached score
2. Edit Ottava text to say 8va
3. Go to Style > General > System and fix number of measures to 6
4. Click Ok
Result: Ottava reset to "8"
Hi Myownmusician
This is in the list of issues to be fixed for 2.0 (there's a tag below the original post), but there's probably no need to bump unless there's a different scenario, or more information to add.
Cheers
Ah, ok. I did not you about the tagging system on here. :)
It's a nifty wee feature :)
Replying to #5, please note that in MuseScore an octave shift is a text line (i.e. with editable text), while in MusicXML only the shift is stored. This means text edits are lost on export and the importer has to set a default representation.

"reset" resets an element to its default style + position. The original bug report is not a bug but "by design".
Thanks for the fix, but I'm not sure about aspects.
I made a new discussion .
