Contrabass range
Hi,
Just curious. Why the contrabass pitch range in MuseScore starts (professional level) from E1? I'm asking because I'm transcribing a score where the contrabasses plays with no problem from C1 sharp.

Because E1 is the lowest note on the lowest string of a non-modified classical 4-string double bass.
Some 5-strings have a lowest string of B0 and there are also extensions for the regular double bass that allow it to go down to C1 or B0.
The default pitch range in MuseScore is there to help those that are un/less-familiar with an instrument to not start writing stuff that most likely isn't playable by the average instrument. You are free to change the range setting for your staff if you know that is the correct setting in your situation.

If there are 4 strings, the bass string's open tune is E1. (Usually used in classical orchestras) E, A, D, G~
If there are five strings, the additional string is tuned to C1 or B0. C , E, A, D, G or B, E, A, D, G

Thanks you too Ziya :-) . The score is from Einojuhani Rautavaara 8th Symphony, last movement, just for reference.
