Stacking chord extensions

• Jun 11, 2018 - 14:48

Is there a way to stack chord extensions when creating a jazz chart? eg - C7(#5#9). I can't figure out how to vertically stack the #5#9 rather than having them horizontal.
Thanks

Indeed, there is no direct support for this. You can get it if you're willing to get in an edit the XML files that control chord symbol rendering. Make your own copy of chords_jazz.xml, set your score to use your copy in Style / General / Chord Symbols, see the comments within the file, and have a ball...

I've seen various threads mentioning the editing of chords_jazz.xml, and in some (iirc), the caveat is given that 3.0 won't necessarily support customizations made to this file. I also recall disucssion of a proposed (wyswyg?) editor, something that Werner S. had started on using the "old" 1.x system of chord symbol coding, and I don't remember reading anything to the effect that such an editor is currently being coded for 3.0

Are there any known changes coming in 3.0 related to chord symbol rendering and the chords_jazz.xml file? I'm interested in learning how to tweak it, but if such tweaks will soon be incompatible with the GA software, I don't want to go too far down that road. Thanks.
