how to reproduce problem
1). make 2 4/4 bars
2). press the whole note
3. tie the whole note to another whole note
result: Give you a double whole note

You need to attach the score where this happens I can't reproduce the problem.

Double whote note cannot appear under a 4/4 time signature, if it can then either the measure is elongated, or it's a serious bug. Check the Measure Properties of the measure in which the double whole note is present, and see if it actually has 8 beats.
