making notes smaller in a completed score.

• Nov 5, 2021 - 19:13

I have just finished several movements for womens' a cappella chorus. When I printed them out, I noticed that the noteheads are very large.
I can only fit four measures on every page. I looked up how to reduce the size of the notes: Select: Format- page settings.
I experimented on an eight measure piece. I reduced the scaling, and when I went to look at my little piece, it had disappeared!
It's probably easy to do, but being not every tech savvy (it's amazing that I taught myself this much in Musescore!), I am scared that I will erase all my hard work.
Does anyone have some guidance for me???

Can you attach here the *.mscz file you are having problems with?
Format/Page Settings->A3?
Right click a note, Select all Similar Elements->Inspector (Chord) set to small?

Changing size doesn't erase anything. But it may have made the score take up fewer pages, so if you were looking at page 7, that page might not exist anymore. Just press the Home button on your keyboard to return to the start (or however you prefer to navigation - scroll wheel, etc).

If you continue to have trouble, please attach the score and give steps to reproduce the problem, then we can understand and assist better.

Indeed, we need the actual score in order to help. But, did you try what I said? After reducing the staff size, your score probably needs fewer pages, so perhaps the page you were looking at simply doesn’t exist any more. Go back to page 1 and probably all will be well.

Except - one thing I can see from your picture is a bunch of spurious rests sitting the in the bottom corner of the third page. Looks like you might have gotten confused with something about multiple voices and tried fixing it by dragging rests off your score, but that’s never the right answer. Again, hard to say if the problem is having entered the notes wrong, or if you simply might need to make some rests invisible.
