The method for typing international characters on mac is to hold down the letter on the keyboard, and a bubble will pop up with the various accent choices. This doesn't work well in musescore, as holding the key just repeatedly types the letter or number. There are usually four or five before the bubble pops up, and musescore also captures the number typed to choose the accent, so the end result is something like this: eeee2é
This makes typing lyrics and score information in other languages incredibly difficult. This is the only app on my mac that has this behavior.

Can you check this using a nightly build on MuseScore 4? MuseScore 3 won't be receiving further updates.
Meanwhile, not sure if you know about the Special Characters palette, but pressing F2 while entering lyrics displays a window where you can easily enter accented characters and more by clicking them. You can also drag any of these to your own custom palette for easier access.
