Comments

To my eye, the flat is positioned correctly and the lower ledger line is correctly shortened to avoid collision.

The debatable point is whether the upper ledger line should also be shortened or not. I don't remember having seen this case discussed on manuals. To my (subjective) eye, the current end result is fine.

LilyPond seems to agree with you, Miwarre - see 'accidental-ledger.ly' here .

I'm not certain if that's correct.

I'm looking at an example that discusses something else in page 423 of 'Behind Bars' and have attached a score with the note. In the book, ledger lines don't seem truncated, unlike in MuseScore.

Musescore does the same that Lilypond in this case and this is pretty sophisticated. There is no colision and the result is pleasant. I close this "issue".
