It seems to have it's own style, 'Lyrics Verse', which doesn't mix and match with 'Lyrics even|odd lines' style, so isn't aligned with the lyrics. If using the same style as the lyrics, it overlaps with them, I'd rather have it before the actual lyric and separated from that by at least a space.

PR to follow shortly (I'd rename 'Lyrics Verse' to 'Lyrics Verse Number' in the due course)

Another issue would be some kind of automatic numbering, like dragging that "1." from the text palette to a lyrics syllable should automatically turn into a "2." on the 2nd line,2 not sure whether this is feasible?

Comments

Also I think changes to their content should propagate between score and part, it does not currently. But this is a separate issue, I guess

The workaround is to manually
a) add the separating space (once per every use, not too bad as the number most likely needs to get changed anyway)
and
b) change style to align to baseline (once per score, or template)

Currently the dissussion moves towards

1/ Delete the lyric verse element from the palettes
2/ Keep the text style for compatibility reason
3/ Deal with automatic parsing to give a way to left align lyric verse or maybe better give a way to override the automatic alignment of lyrics.

To 2/ I'd add fixing the default style to match the one from lyrics odd/even lines. i.e. use baseline alignment.
I've ammended my PR accordingly, but so far without having done anything about 3/
