Metronome Tempo
When saving a file ... the playback tempo I set is not saved.
Is there a setting to change this ?

When you find an answer, please describe what you found. It's certain that tomorrow or next week or next month or in an hour, someone else will have the same problem and needthe same solution.

You are correct ... here's what I did !
Selected a note or rest.
Picked a tempo in the left side menu.
With that tempo marking selected ... opened the Inspector from View menu.
Unchecked Follow text
Then set the tempo I wanted to right of Tempo section
Probably other ways to do it but this has worked for me.

Interesting, I've never done it that way. I usually do it in the tempo marking in the score. I left click one of the numbers quickly 4 times. At which point the numbers are in a blue box. Then I enter the tempo I want.

Depends on the tempo text, the OP's method might be the way to go for e.g. Allegro, your's for the note symbol = 80
