A couple notation things I need help with

• May 23, 2010 - 01:00

First off, let me say that this is a wonderful program. I write for marching percussion only. I've been able to figure a lot out on my own but am having a problem with a few things. I can't figure out how to write notation in the first figure I've attached. It's the part where it's like half sextuplet and half 16th notes. On the second and third figure, I don't know if it's possible to duplicate those in this program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for your reply. However, the problem I am having is with what I attached to this message. It is one beat. The first half is 2 16th notes and the second half is 3 notes of a sextuplet.

Ok, thanks. I looked at the beam section again. I still can't get the two parts of the notes to connect with one line. I attached another picture. I think I have the notes in the right spot except instead of a 16th and 8th rest there needs to be a quarter rest. In the picture, i'm trying to get the two sets of notes connected with one line instead of two.

Ok, thanks. I downloaded the pre-release of 0.9.6 and tried it. I almost got it but can't get the line to connect. In the attached picture the first 3 notes are correct and the single bar connecting the two sets of notes is correct also. It's the last two notes that don't connect. I had to use an 8th note on the next to last note just to get it to look like it does when in reality the last two notes are 16's. I guess I could just use an ink pen to fill it in until it gets figured out.

As described in the handbook link I provided above, single beams between groups of sixteenth notes are "not yet implemented in current versions of MuseScore".

The new feature that Lasconic was probably thinking of is "beaming between tuplet and non-tuplet notes" which was not previously possible in any form using versions 0.9.5 or older.

No, the second to last post he made said that he almost had it, posted a picture, and said that he could just use a pen to fill it in. Then someone else said the feature he was looking for wasn't yet available. He then thanked that person. That was from May 2010. Is it able to be done now?

The feature may become available in 2.x. Meantime (as for many things) there is a workaround:

Create two semiquavers
Create a triplet of semiquavers
Beam them as two groups
Add two quavers in a 2nd Voice
Flip the quavers vertically
Adjust the beam height (double-click on beam and select left handle either with mouse or by [Shift][Tab]) using the up/down arrows, [Ctrl] arrow (fine tune) and [Alt] arrow (even finer tune) keys.
