In version 3.0.5, when you use the palette to double click to add an element, the last item remains highlighted as in this picture

I suspect this was messed up in #281957: Regression: display of beam properties for a selected note, but this is only speculation.

FWIW, there is a long-pending PR to provide keyboard navigation of the palette, and while it has sat in limbo for almsot two years now, I haven't given up on it. Someday, I do hope to see this, and then we will have palette elements that stay highlighted in some situations. But not just from ordinary usage, there would be a particular procedure to transfer keyboard focus to the palettes
