See attached score. In measure 6 add a "Fingering" symbol to one of the beamed notes below the slur.

Expected result: Fingering should go above slur.
Actual result: Slur goes above fingering!

Title Ties are placed above fingering (should be the other way round) Slurs are placed above fingering (should be the other way round)

Then I'll correct the title a bit to be more precise :)

Is this a problem? I don't know about guitar fingerings, but violins write finger numbers close to the note - slurs are often far away, so the number ends up under the slur. Actually, here's two Paganini caprices, with it both ways. fingerings.png
I don't know where it should default to, but it seems a little debatable to just immediately declare this a problem.

Laurelin is quite right: the exact position does depend on the context. More info needed …

After further investigation, it is possible to place fingering above the slur in the above example—even with automatic placement ON:

  1. Add the "Fingering" to one of the beamed notes in measure 6.
  2. Drag and drop the fingering above the beam (or use the arrow buttons, or Y offset). The slur will move underneath at some point.
  3. Move the fingering down to the desired position.

As there doesn't seem to be anything to fix, IMV, this can be closed or marked "by design."

I can see that there is no issue with moving the fingering in the Chansonette score that the original poster attached. However, I am experiencing a similar problem with a score of my own. Here, if you try to move the 5-1 fingering in measure 3 above the slur, the slur just continues to automatically move higher and higher, and the only way to fix it is to turn off automatic placement for the fingering. Fingerings should automatically be placed on the most visually pleasing side of a slur, as in Sibelius.

Since Anatoly-os is the one who decides what does and doesn't get fixed, I'd leave the status as he put it. Adding a comment on an issue that isn't closed is always welcomed though.

Okay, my apologies. I probably should have read up a little more on how this forum works--I have not used it before. I feel that the issue I'm encountering goes beyond what was previously being discussed, but I wasn't sure if it was worth starting a new post. Anyway, I'll respect his decision. Thanks!
