It would be nice to be able to set the change instrument's instrument via inspector, instead of having to right click it. This is similar to how Tempo text is settable via inspector.
(Also it would be great if could just type the instrument when creating an instrument text box. This is similar to how am able to set the tempo when creating a tempo text by simply typing the tempo in and then have "Follow Text" automatically read the tempo. But maybe this is too much. So I'm just keeping this issue to what I wrote in description.)
FWIW there is currently a huge effort going on to remove dialogs (e.g. text styles) and right-click menu items (e.g. text properties) and move the relevant functionality to the Inspector.

#118086: Eliminate most "Properties" dialogs in favor of Inspector for MuseScore 3, progressing slowly but surely. But for this specific element, I think it will be eventually merged with the "staff type change" implemented in 3.0-dev, which is already managed form the Inspector.
how do I access "staff type change" implemented in 3.0-dev via inspector?
It's a blue-boxed S next to Instrument Change in the Text palette.
thanks, I was unaware of that. Is there any reason why that is not in the main menubar "Add"->"Text"? Can I go ahead and add it there?
Oh, and fyi there is a typo for "Staff Type" right click menu incorrectly called "Staff Typeype"...here is fix: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/3070
Like I said, I think it's a work in progress that will eventually simply be merged with "Instrument Change."
fyi it seems toggling off "Show Barlines" and "Generate Key Signatures" for this new "Staff Type" element doesn't work.
Well if "instrument change" is going to be merged with that Staff Type, I'm marking this as won't fix.
I don't know that for certain, but at any rate, I think we can safely consider it included in #118086: Eliminate most "Properties" dialogs in favor of Inspector for MuseScore 3 (maybe make a note there about this).
