When (and if) you release MuseScore 4, could you allow backwards compatibility for all past versions of MuseScore (1, 2, and 3)? Doing this would be, in my opinion, a great idea to where we don't lose progress on anything when we upgrade to MS4. I had a lot of trouble moving incomplete works to MuseScore 3 because all of the projects on MuseScore 2 were unloadable in MuseScore 3.

Comments

There were bugs that have been fixed with importing score and any more bugs need to be fixed as well. Otherwise, versions 3 imports version 2 scores.

Right, you might be thinking of the other direction - MuseScore cannot load MuseScore 3 scores, but aside from glitches here in there in the formatting or whatever, MuseScore 2 scores have always been loadable in MuseScore 3. If you have one that doesn't work, please report it.

FYI, there's no particular plans I am aware of to make any more incompatible changes, although you never know what may come up.

I personally found a fix and while I do not write professionally, i do arrangements for my Accordion/Guitar duo. i brought up Muse 3-said yes, made the changes then saved it to a new MUSE 3 FOLDER. Seeing that i don't have a prolific number of arrangements (maybe a couple of hundred), when i finished converting all the files, i just shipped all the old Muse 2 files off to a folder in my external drive. JUST IN CASE they were needed. Now when i do a new arrgmt, i go directly to Muse 3. Might not seem overly professional to everyone, but hey, it works for me.

@docjazz1, that's the best thing to do in my opinion. The most important point is do not save over version 2 scores using version 3.
