How to reproduce:
-select a note
-click on a tempo palette item
-result: tempo is added as expected => perfect
-do not select a valid tempo target (e.g. select a text)
-click on a tempo palette item
-result: failure to add tempo (of course) but the palette visual behaviour is 100% equal to the success case: square becomes +/- dark blue for the "duration" of the click with a small trash appearing on top of the palette (what does this trash mean is a mystery, it appears also in the success scenario).
No red instead of blue, no beep, no message, nothing.
Up to the user to search for the tempo in all cases where it is not obvious that the tempo was or not added (when the score is already "dense"). For tempo it is still more or less easy to detect success or not, but for small object such as articulation a lot less immediate.

Comments

It seems to be a suggestion rather than a bug, but I agree that it makes sense to have some sort of visual feedback of non-success of placement. How the program should go about doing that gracefully is worth discussing in greater detail with others.
