is "Orchestra" the best default for "Ordering"? Surely many, if not most, users will be using different instruments? In that case "Custom" might be the better default.

Just a thought. Since "Custom" turns off automatic ordering and brackets, wouldn't it be better to call it "Off" or "None"?

Comments

I assume there is data on musescore.com to look at in terms of determining the best default, but my sense is orchestra is probably as good a choice as any for those users who choose not to start with a template. There aren't that many significant differences between the orderings that would affect most scores, really, so it's pretty harmless to use orchestral ordering in most other contexts. The biggest issue I know of would be treatment of rhythm section in a pop/jazz setting. To me, it could be interesting to automatically switch if you are still at the default and then add drumset or an electric guitar.

This is not 100% true, Custom doesn't turn off both automatic bracketing and ordering, it does nothing. Existing ordering and bracketing are kept as they are. Therefor, I'm not sure Off or None are better names.
