Is there a way to change the instrument sounds list to alphabetical?
Hi all (again),
As per the title, can I change the instrument sound list (voices?) to alphabetical to make it easier to find particular sound for each instrument rather than scrolling through all 128 or so in MuseScore?

Sure, but where would you put Horn? "F" for French horn, or "H" for horn? Tenor Sax? T or S. It makes more sense to group by Instrument type.
You'd have to change names in software like Polyphone.
I totally agree that the present system is hard to maneuver. And entering the first letter or two isn't that much easier. Especially if you don't know for sure what the instrument in named.

Are you talking about the list of standard General MIDI sounds in the mixer? You shouldn't normally be messing with that except to make very small changes, like from one guitar sound to a different guitar sound. And then you'll be glad they are all adjacent rather than all scrambled up as they would be if alphabetic.
But for anything else - actually changing to a completely different sound - don't use the mixer, but rather change the actual instrument, in Staff/Part Properties. That way not just the sound changes but the clef, transposition, range, name, and everything else needed to properly write for that instrument.

No, I'm talking about the list of sounds that come up in Mixer when you change instrument, or in my case, the sound of the instrument is changed when moving the midi from my computer to my laptop.

Exactly what I'm saying - that is not how to change instrument. it's how to change the specific sound of a given instrument, really only relevant for things like selecting the different guitar sounds or the different electric acoustic piano sounds, etc. Again, to change instrument, you shouldn't be using the Mixer - that's not its purpose. use Staff/Part Properties as I said.
In the cases where for whatever reason you do need to select a sound that isn't already adjacent to the default for the current instrument (like to select a sound from another soundfont entirely), keep in mind this is a standard dropdown list, so typing the first few letters of the desired item works to jump directly there.

Hmm, maybe you have a different version to me or I am doing it wrong.
In Mixer instrument is selected for example Theremin.
In Sounds I either have to scroll to where the Theremin sounds are or enter T.
That will take me to the first sound starting with T in the title. If I then enter h it goes to sounds beginning with h.

As with any dropdown, you need to type the "Th" fast enough for the system to consider it a single search for that rather than two separate searches.
In MU4, you will just be able to select the alternate soundfont directly, no need to hunt for the sound within the soundfont.

Doeends on how many people help test it using the beta links posted over the past few weeks, how many more bugs get reported, and how fast the developers can fix them. But, I'd expect "weeks" more than "months".

Looking forward to it. By then I should be a little more competent on the Theremin and might try a bit of composing.
