Is there a way to write a score like the screenshot below, without bars?

Select a group of measures you want to have combined on a system, then use the commands in Tools / Measures to join them (also split out portions you don't want).

Here's how I'd do it (not necessarily the best way):

This is pretty regular music, rhythm-wise, so enter the music with barlines.
Then select the range where you don't want barlines (click on the first bar in the range, [Shift]-click on the last).
Now right-click on a barline, "Select >Similar in the range" and press V to make them invisible,

I agree - all the original lute tablature I have seen (admittedly not an enormous amount) has had “bar” lines, as it would be very difficult to read without them. Such bars were not necessarily consistent in length, as the lines were often drawn in advance - you can see this in old manuscripts, not just lute ones. It’s quite possible that the original editor (?19th century) did not have enough experience of this, and decided to play “safe” and omit them altogether.
