When starting musescore (fresh updated via ppa for Ubuntu 14.04) the startcenter opens behind the main window and it took me a little bit to get the clue. The main window did not take mouse clicks. For me it is reproduceable.

It would be great to have the childdialog popping in the front then I click on the blocked main window, or alert the user through bubbling icons in dash bar or task bar.

May be it is a linux or ubuntu related thing. Can someone confirm this. Its "only" an usbility issue. I rated it "minor"

Kindest regards
Chrisch

Same problem on Linux Mint 17.1 Mate 64 bit. The problem exist only if the main window is maximized. Another observation: the start center never opens on the center of the screen. All these problems only exist on Linux. I use MuseScore on Windows 7 too, without any of these issues.

Huh, works fine on Ubuntu for me, and I always start maximimzed. I am running xfce. Is this only when using the new official package? I haven't tried that, only self-builds.

normal opening. Start center is above. Main window is inactive. I have to close the center to go on.

I found that this behavior only happen with the official's ppa version. I've built MuseScore from source code with Qt 5.4.1 and the issue was solved.

I've alerted the package maintainers. There doesn't seem to be a way to submit bug reports from the MuseScore Maintainers team Launchpad page lasconic linked to, but there is a option to contact them so I did it that way. I subsequently found this link but it is for an older version of MuseScore.

Perhaps someone could comment with the preferred method?

Just piping in to verify that on my Ubuntu system, when I use the PPA versionof 2.0.3, I get the same bug: Start Center appears behind the main window, rendering the main window useless until the user figures out there is a hidden window. And indeed, Help / About Qt reports 5.3. So I guess this will be fixed if/when the PPA is updated to use 5.4 or later. But I wonder, is there nothing we could be doing in how to create the Start Center that would allow this to work using Qt 5.3?

@robert, this bug was with Qt 5.3. Ubuntu (and Kubuntu) 15.10 use Qt 5.5.

I don't think patching MuseScore to fix a bug in an old version of Qt would be a good use of our time. I actually became a maintainer for the Ubuntu PPA subsequently to my last comment in this thread, so upgrading the Qt in the PPA to Qt 5.4 (or even 5.5) is within my power. However, I would prefer to point people in the direction of the AppImages, which run on every Linux and always included the latest Qt. Backporting libraries can create dependency problems when different programs rely on features from different versions of a library, but this isn't an issue for AppImages because they keep the libraries isolated from the system.

The problem imo is not with Qt because when I am using MuseScore 2 Self Build (2.1.0 unstable) the start center is appearing in maximized form even though in help --> About Qt says Qt 5.3

This is also an issue on Windows: 2.0.2 f51dc11, Qt 5.4.2.
The issue is not present in the nightly build: 2.1.0 d349682, Qt 5.4.2.

The Windows workaround is to close the hidden startup window via the Windows taskbar (see attached screenshot).

I'm very new to musescore. Can someone re-label / re-post my text to make certain the issue is considered for the Windows builds ?

.. and just to confirm the issue description:
When starting musescore 2.0.2 f51dc11, Qt 5.4.2.the startcenter window opens behind the main window. The main window does not take mouse clicks. For me it is reproducible, it happens at every startup since I've started using official musescore versions (mid 2015 ?). I'm using Windows 7, SP1, Enterprise, 64 bit.

Assuming this affects many users, IMHO this is a major usability issue for new users.

musescore is great :-)

@jojo-schmitz: sure, I'm happy to test 2.0.3! Unfortunately, I could not find a Windows 2.0.3 download (?). Can you please provide a link ?

Can you provide more details about your system - what version of Windows? It doesn't seem like anyone else is seeing this with 2.0.3 on Windows or we'd have heard about it by now.

I could imagine it happening if you have Qt installed on your system for some reason and it's a different version than the one MuseScore uses internally and things are configured so MuseScore uses your version rather than its own version. Not sure *how* that might happen, but anyhow, that's what it sounds like to me.
