Project
- Make a score with non-percussion instruments. (I have only tested this on piano)
- Place a note.
- Press / to add a grace note.
- Tie it to the main note. Now you will have one note with a tiny tie on top.
- Turn it into an interval by adding another note.
CRASH!

Just you so far, so once. Crashes are critical though.

Every single time I've tried it, it froze my MuseScore. All I did was make a note, add a grace note, tie the grace note to the main note, and add another note. For example, with G, adding C, the keystrokes would be "g/+C". I have only tried it on piano, but it seems to be consistent. Workaround: Add the grace note AFTER the other notes, such as gC then select the g and do /+

Yes, crashes for me as well.
But why would one want to tie a grace note to its main note? Slur yes, but tie??
See https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/5789.

_fix #302011: Grace note tie crash
Resolves: https://musescore.org/en/node/302011.
When creating a tie from a grace note to its main note, make sure not to overwrite the main note's chord, thus destroying the grace note and creating a tie from a note to itself._

fix #302011: Grace note tie crash_
workaround: add the other notes BEFORE the grace note. You will know it worked when the grace note stays and is tied to one note.

Honestly, I don't know. I just had it in a piece written using other software and wanted to tranfer the piece over. But... I didn't know how, so I did it note by note. [:|

It appears in Mussourgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, in The Great Gate at Kiev, multiple times.

Ah yes, I see them in the final Grave, sempre alargando. That notation is multiply weird with two sets of offset semibreves in a 4/4 bar. I can see what Modest wants there but it does look odd. He could (should?) have done something like this.
But Russians have their own way of doing things I guess.

Hi, the self-tie can also be made from giving a 2-note chord two grace notes, and setting them to the pitches of the chord. Tying the first one works fine, but the 2nd one ties to itself. I found this while transcribing a bit of Gaspard de la Nuit, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BspU0vUB_tg&t=50s shows it (rh at start of 3/4 measure)
