The entire program quits unexpectedly when entering with a midi controller. I have noticed it when entering chords of 3 or more notes.

This doesn't happen in general for everyone, so it must be something unique about your particular score or system. In order to help, we would need you to attach the score you are having trouble with and give precise step by step instructions to reproduce the problem.
