My created soundfont - not uploaded with score
Musescore 2.1.0
Soundfont created with polyphone
Soundfont exported from polyphone as .SF3 / and loaded into Musescore Fluid tab / and saved-to-score
It works in the Musescore editor as expected.
Except that:
1)even though saved with score, the soundfont that loads with the score is a previous incrimental version.
I have tried deleting all priors, and in Musescore synth deleting reference to the persistent file , then re-loading my latest version of the soundfont / and again /save-to-score. / Reloading the score brings in the old soundfont.
2) Saved soundfont-to-score, and uploaded to Musescore.com. Chose the Synth for playback on site. On the site, the staff (hidden) sound plays default voices (the name i chose in staff options). My soundfont name only appears in the synth and mixer options of Muse editor. Not in the list of staff-properties or categories. So I had to choose a part-name in staff-properties like "voices", and assign my soundfont in the synth / then mixer-dropdown. Therefore my soundfont name is selected under the default "voices" dropdown in the mixer. This works in the editor-playback. But on Musescore.org, I get the default "voices" for this staff.
How can I assign my own soundfont to one stave of a system, and get it to work upon upload to Musescore.org?

Thanks Much!

To answer the second, the soundfont is never uploaded to your online MuseScore account. Instead there is a new feature since 2.1 which uploads an mp3 file along with your score. See point 7 at https://musescore.org/en/handbook/share-scores-online#direct
Note that this new feature has some reliability issues with the audio upload. For the status on this issue, see #197716: Audio file will not upload

Thanks. That's unfortunate. I assume that an audio mp3 cannot sync with the score? At least as far as cursor points as in midi functionality?

Yes it can and does

Ok then. Great! I can't find the proceedure for this.
at what point do I render the .mp3. From musescore editor onto HD? / then upload with the score?

You don't; MuseScore does this automatically* if you check the "Upload score audio" box in the "File / Save Online" dialog.
*Assuming your computer has the necessary MP3 library installed - you can test this by doing File / Export, and choosing MP3. If you can export an MP3, then you should be good to go using File / Save Online and you won't need to actually export anything to MP3 in the future. If MP3 export is not supported on your computer, you'll get an error on the export, and the "Upload score audio" will be missing in File / Save Online.

Ok, all due respect guys. This has led me far from what is actually possible with your site for an indulgent week.
No, the "save online" with mp3 doesn't work. I have read all of the bug reports. (I get the famous error - "unable to process audio") -At best, I seriously doubt it would sync with the cursor of posted score.
So I tried the "youtube workaround". Does not come close to syncing with the score. I noticed the option to then go in and manually wildsync measure numbers via metadata. Too time consuming, and inaccurate vs. diminishing returns. (But I apprec. that it is possible.)
So, basically, a score-is-a-score -with your playback engine (for now).
My question now is, (after all the work and steps I (we) went through to successfully learn how to create a custom soundfont) -- Wouldn't it be slicker and easier for your site to enable custom soundfont upload functionality??? !!
PS-- I sincerely appreciate your team endeavors to enable us to dream.
Basically, I just wanted to make an educational voiceover track to my scores. I.e. countoffs, beat numbers; finger numbers, etc. But cursor accurate. (works flawlessly on my private laptop via custom soundfont).
I sought a good standalone scoring tool aside from my Logic standard. Yours is the best I have seen. I never expected it to draw me into an online community! Thanks for your efforts, and LMK when my soundfont upload quest might be possible!
Thanks!
Scott

Thanks for the feedback Scott. We will post back on this thread as soon as the "save audio online" is working as expected.
For your information: the saved audio will be entirely in sync with the score, and we are working as well to make this happen on a beat level rather than measure level only.

Meanwhile, you can try a nightly build of 2.2 to see if the proposed fix for the audio uload issues helps in your case. As mentioned, when it works - which it seems to most of the time for most people - it really does sync, and is easier for the user, more foolproof, and saves storage space on the server, than having a separate soundfont upload step.

My question was specific. Which one is "the latest"? I see the chronology listed. But I was advised to try a specific build. "2.2".
Anyway, whichever ones I tried, one of them looked really old, and didn't even offer "save online". That one looked like the top of the list.
The next one -failed, and didn't even complete. Just dissapeared after 7% upload.
Guys, could you please minimize the hurdles with this?
Thanks

The latest 2.2 or the latest master? Has to be 2.2 (as opposed to master) or Save Online isn't available. If 2.2, what went wrong?

It's now working again. Kind of. I just downloaded the latest nightly for 2.2 and my first attempt stopped about half way through. I refreshed the web page, tried again and the file downloaded. I never noticed the splash screen before. It says Version 2.1, but it is definitely a 2.2 nightly.

I filed a bug report #268284: Windows nightly page working intermittantly.. Wait for it to be fixed, probably sometime tomorrow and try again.

I'm not assuming anything. I asked you specific questions to understand more specifically what problem are seeing when you say it's not working. We need to understand better what isn't working.- what you are doing, what you expect to see happen, and what happens instead. Are you now saying you haven't even succeeded in downloadingrade the 2.2 nightly, as opposed to.sayi g you have downloaded it but it doesn't solve the original problem when uploading your score audio?
In reply to I'm not assuming anything. … by Marc Sabatella
No, sorry, I wasn't directing that toward you. I was complementing you.
As far as I can tell, I have run the bat file from the package atop the 2.2 list.
I then imported my score to that version, and selected "save online".
The same issue as I and others have had occurred. Only this time, I don't get the error message. Instead, the progress window just vanishes at about 5% "uploading".

OK, thanks for the clarification. Hopefully this info will be helpful in tracking down what is going with this difficult-to-reproduce bug.

Ps, it would have assisted me through several other replies, to have been provided a link, or at least a build ID. that I could match in the list, to ensure I am working with the correct file. Consequently I have had to delete/ re-DL/ relaunch several versions. (too confusing to keep aborted D/L files while extracting new ones) Very time consuming process.
Also P.S.,
If a score does get uploaded ultimately, what would I expect to see in the choose audio source on the post?
Thanks,
Scott

Any recent build should suffice - as shown in the issue thread linked to above, the proposed fix was pushed weeks ago. Most recent is always best, so rather than post a link and have it be out of date a few hours or days later, it really is best to just say, get the most recent.
Anyhow, once the audio is uploaded, you are done. no need to do anything whatsoever beyond that. Everything just works.

Update?
Last night (around 10pm pst) Wala! I got a score uploaded correctly with the save-online with audio feature!
Directly from 2.1, (not nightly)
Turns out it was a fluke. I tried it again several times with the exact same score, and 1 of 10 tries worked.
Now it doesn't again! It's a moving target.

As mentioned above, uploading a soundfont would be more difficult for the user, slower, and take additional space on the server (since the audio needs to be generated also). Consider, soundfonts can be huge - perhaps many orders of magnitude larger than the audio for any given score. Not saying it would never happen - and I have absolutely nothing to do with that decision. But given that your case is pretty unusual - and surely the default soundfont is sufficient for learning purposes? - I personally am not seeing it as a good tradeoff / use of resources.

Ok. Fair enough.
Then, please make it work! ( I'm saying this to whom it mat concern)
You just happen 2 be the best replyer in this thread,
It will be great when it actually works!!
For me, it doesn't yet.
Sincerely,
SW

You can follow up the status of the upload audio issue as described in https://musescore.org/en/node/268233#comment-815318 We are striving to fix it for the next release of MuseScore but no ETA yet.
