In #275313: Reworking the Mixer UI it was indicated that it would be possible to control the playback of individual voices in the mixer. I believe the terminology was wrong and was referring to playback styles (mute, pizz. etc...).

It would be useful to, as a minimum, allow the user to solo and mute individual voices (1-4) on a staff. This would require some additional redesign or possibly just put in the empty area below reverb and chorus since this would be by instrument.

Allowing for individual voices to have volume control wold definitely require a redesign, because there is no room on the current UI for this.

Came up here again: https://musescore.org/de/node/279501#comment-877174

Beside the option for playback of "mute" and "solo" for each single voices, I don't understand why a control of the individual volume would need a redesign of the UI. If I adjust the volume for a voice (1), I don't expect, that it changes the volume for the whole instrument. It should only take affect for this special voice.

Btw. for me it's a bug, not a suggestion, these settings don't work as they should seem to work.

Maybe I'm not understanding. There is no control for volume for a voice, nor has anyone suggested one be added, and it's certainly not a bug that no one has even proposed or thought about implementing this until now. Mute controls have been requested for voices, and there already implemented then accidentally left out of a redesign that happened a few weeks ago, now they are in the process of being added back.

So, there has never been control by voice in any released version so there is no bug, but there are indeed suggestions that such controls be added to 3.0. Code to implement it already exists (which is why the status says "PR created") and will hopefully be merged before release.

I chose Suggestion as the severity because intentional or not, it is a design decision that needs to be reconsidered. I honestly expected the person who redesigned the mixer to quickly say "Sorry" and post a PR to fix it. My expectation was wrong, and there are much worse bugs that need to be fixed. It would be very nice to have it in 3.0, but not the end of the world if it gets released in a month or two after in a later update.

Hi Marc

I think it was postulated as as a way to go about setting different volumes for things like percussion e.g. DrumKit.

I thought about it from the conversation and decided to use MIDI and an external Synth more as I think that is more logical in the long term approach. That Musescore Fluid Synth external notion.. MIDI is working a lot better in dev3 now the most recent daily has sorted out the MIDI resetting channels bugginess.

Halon SE3 is a "free" license / download (give up your email and register on my steinberg) This is one synth that some of the drum synth have the ability to adjust the volumes of kick snare hihat and other percussion instruments. Ok if your windows or mac looking for a similar one for linux Ardour includes a synth so is also a free DAW for Windows mac and Linux...

Might be a good short term solution for the more serious percussionist until the editing notation crashing bugs are put to bed.

Hmm, is it not clear that the PR has been submitted? That's why the status is "PR created". See https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/4238. Entirely possible we'll see it for 3.0; I see no reaosn why it wouldn't be soon in any case.

Ron, I have to confess I have no idea what you are talking about here - are your comments somehow related to the ability to mute by voice in the mixer?

Maybe my misunderstanding is concerning this issue, that I understood 'voices' in sense of channels? So maybe it's another issue or maybe I misinterpret the new mixer ui.
In the same way as it doesn't work correct at time to select "mute" and "solo", it isn't possible to adjust the volume for channels. It doesn't have any effect in general for the playback, above it isn't possible to adjust the volume for the first shown channel of an instrument, without it take also effect to the volume of the instrument.

Voice means what it usually does here - having multiple voices on a single staff, e.g. using the the four numbered buttons on the toolbar. Nothing whatsoever to do with channels.

So maybe it also explains my irritation with "suggestion" and "bug". Will create a new issue entry for mute, solo and volume settings with channels (that they don't work properly), I don't see that it's reported before (?).

Looking at the picture in the PR I see two issues. In English you need to only say "Mute Voice" rather than "Mute per voice." The other problem is that people already complain that the mixer is too wide and the Mute section should be able to fix under the Midi section above the instruments.
