For drum notation (percussion), clicking the palette (single-clicking now) does not take into consideration the preferred voicing established in the [Edit Drumset] settings, though when using the keyboard to place notes in Note-Entry, it does work. This has nothing to do with the new 3.4 behavior, as it has been this way for a long time. In other words, MuseScore defaults to first-voice in a new measure while using the palette, regardless of alternative voicing settings.
It seems to me that the obviously desired behavior is to honor the settings of the drum editor, regardless of whether the user presses a palette item or types on the keyboard while in note entry.
Comments
OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.4.0.9701, revision: d60881e
Edited. issue confirmed. It doesn't affect shortcut entry, just entry using the mouse. e.g.
Expected result: "Bass Drum 1" should be entered on the first beat of the measure in voice 2.
Actual result: "Bass Drum 1" is entered on the second beat in voice 1.
Workaround is to use the Voice input toolbar (or shortcut) to move the cursor between voices.
I have the same problem and I can't put a H.H on top, a snare in the middle and a bassdrum under on the same beat...
I didn't have this problem before I installed the 3.4.1.9660 version. On my 3.3.4.9066 it doesn't do this and it's working fine.
Thank You !! Jack
This is a major issue for anyone wanting to write drum notation. When does "few" become "many"? ;-)
so far 2 users have reported this being an issue for them, that's a few...
See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/developers-handbook/getting-started/h… :
Once - 1 report in the issue tracker or forum
Few - 2-5 reports
Many - More than 5 reports
May relate to the recent single click improvments (and its bad effect on drum input, see https://musescore.org/en/node/300139), and/or might have become worse due to it, so may get improved by https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/5648
Thanks!
I see four reports in this issue alone? @worldwideweary, @geetar, @Jacques Gagné et moi.
@geetar merely confirmed the issue, you didn't clearly claim to have that issue too, just that it potentially might be affecting many users, but even if, that makes 4, which still is Few ;-)
However, you're more than welcome to pick up this issue, develop a fix and create a PR
Meanwhile I asked in the developers' chat about the urgency of this issue
Fair enough. :-)
I can't code, sorry.
S2 - Critical - The bug prevents the user from doing the intended action. They can’t go further. They're stopped. The bug prevents the user from using a key feature of MuseScore (e.g. layout, elements positions, mixer), there is no workaround, the business logic of a key feature doesn't work.
Not the case here, it is still possible, but massively slowing down the process of putting cymbals on voice 1 and drums on voice 2.
It was broken even before the single click
No, I accidentally conflated two different issues. That's why I've corrected my original report (above) and opened a separate issue.
See @worldwideweary 's original report, it explicitly states This has nothing to do with the new 3.4 behavior, as it has been this way for a long time. and you added that this happens in 3.3.4 too (even if you changed that now, to a post 3.4.1 development build)
And as per #300267: Percussion staff: mouse click wrongly enters voice 1 percussion in voice 2 you're (still) not using 3.4?
So you count more than 5 now? I'm still at 4, 5 if you have the issue too

I experiment this issue too since update 3.4.1.9660
As far as I recall this was documented behavior since it was first implemented - people wanted an easy way to to override the default voice that is applied when using one of the other methods. So to me, the relative lack of complaints about this suggests to me people do like having this easy override, so I wouldn't be inclined to take it away without more discussion on the forums.

I have the issue too, plus there has just been one duplicate of that.
Which was @geetar's, so counted here already. But now it is 6;-)
Is this issue a duplicate of #153686: Drum input palette: notes set to enter as voice 2 are entered into voice 1 in error?
Yes.
P.S. Heheh, in a sense, this thread wasn't made because it was a personal issue for me, so you can't count me in on the 'issue for them' aspect since I merely performed an observation and gave an opinion. I stick with the keyboard and set my drum map usually. But based on that behavior, if I did use the mouse on occasion, I'd personally also want MS to honor my custom voicing decisions within the drum-map. 'Twas just an observation.
Hope it works out well for everyone, however it works out.
