Note Entry Stops Working

While I was in the middle of a project, note entry stopped working. First, I selected the empty measure I wanted to add notes to. Then, I pressed "n" to enter note entry mode. However, when I single-clicked on the staff to add a note, nothing happened. Also, the light blue highlighted note that shows where the next note will be placed appeared stuck: that is, it didn't follow the mouse at all. I found I could add notes intermittently by double-clicking. Also, the keyboard stopped responding. That is, once I entered note entry mode, all keyboard shortcuts stopped working.

Finally, in frustration, I clicked rapidly on a note and MuseScore froze and started using 100% of my CPU.

Interestingly enough, once I re-opened my file (I saved as soon as it started acting weird), it started working again, so I'm not sure what happened.

Can you read [[nodetitle:How to report bug or ask for support]] ?
Which MuseScore version? Which OS?
Can you give steps to reproduce?

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the note entry mode:
I start musescore, press 'n' to enter the Note entry mode and start playing notes on the keyboard (connected via USB).
Then, two bad things happen:
1- I don't see the notes while I am playing them. I first see them after pressing 'n' again, or changing the duration of the note. Is that normal?
2-For some reason, after a while (or after a certain number of notes, I don't know) no more notes are inserted in the partiture. I don't think this is related to my keyboard, because that does not happen when using other programs (Jack+Qsynth still detect new notes played, but musescore doesn't).

I'm in Ubuntu 10.04, using Musescore unstable prerelease for version 0.9.6. Revision 2613 (I installed it from synaptics).

Thanks a lot!

Pablo A.

Please install a more recent version of MuseScore first, preferably a stable one. See [[nodetitle:Download]]
Can you enclose a copy of you Preferences -> I/O dialog?

Solved! Thanks a lot,

I had the Ubuntu official version (which was unstable). Now I have added the repository of mscore-stable, and upgraded to 0.9.6.2 revision 3400. Now the note entry seems to work well (at least for longer than before!).

Musescore works well with my MIDI keyboard alone. But when I try to use Jack+Qsynth+Musescore, nothing goes well (no note entry, or no sound, or not both at the same time). I've tried changing the configuration of Jack, Qsynth and Musescore, but it seems tricky to find the right way. If someone knows how to combine the three programs properly, that information would be very helpful.

Cheers,

Pablo A.
