I have been composing multiple arrangement revolving around Chinese soundtrack, but I have noticed there is not an erhu. I get that you can still use a violin, or create a violin track with the name erhu, but it's not the same. If it's okay for me to ask, I hope it's possible the creation of an erhu with its actual sound. Just a suggestion. I know violins can take it's place, but when you have a musician's ear, you get agitated the sound will never be right.

The sounds used in MuseScore are dependent on the soundfont you have loaded. The soundfont provided by default uses the General MIDI standard, which does not define a sound for erhu. But if you find a soundfont that includes an erhu sample, you are welcome to install and use it with MuseScore.

Still we might add Ehru to instruments.xml, including ist transposition info (if any) and ranges.
Maybe using violin as the (Default) sound, lacking something better.

I'd say flute is closer to an Erhu than violin.

For 2.0, instruments.xml is in a better state than in 1.x, but yes, I also know of a few missing instruments. However, I think that will change as more versions are released.

Anyway, Ehru might make it, I think I have an entry ready

2 Strings, D4 and A4, range 3 1/3 Octave, so up to A7 (professional range), usually played 2 1/2 Octave, so up to A6 (amateur range), sound like violin. Genre ethnic.

From what I heard it does use tremolo, but what about pizzicato? Probably not I guess, as the bow hair is between the strings, right?
Tablature not needed I guess

Edit: it can get plucked, so pizzicato is needed.

Which code? If you mean the updated instruments.xml file that was just proposed as a patch, you wait for the pull request to get merged, wait for a nightly build incorporating that commit to become available, then download that. Unless you feel like compiling from source yourself.

But note, this change doesn't do anything you can't already do yourself. Add a violin, change the staff name to erhu - you know have exactly what this would do. It's still going to *sound* like a vioilin unless you find a soundfont with an actual erhu sample. And if you find such a soundfont, you can use it with or without this patch,

I think the flute like quality chen lung is talking about is the sul tasto playing of a violin, which means maybe it's the sul tasto and sul ponticello kind of thing we have to look for.
