What operating system, what language settings?
Can you try to update the translations via the resource manager or the presences settings and see whether that fixes it?
Perhaps not, but this still rings some sort of bell, like there might be some other similar sounding issue that turned out to be Vista-specific in some way.
Please also try wit with a recent nightly build, or with 2.0 RC (should get released March 12th)
We had a similar report where a nightly build fixed the issue, http://musescore.org/en/node/50151
It seems to be a bug for I had the same problem (on vista) when I tried to export a file as a .wav. I bypass the problem by typing the extension .wav after the file's name ; for example, if the file name is abc, choose export as wav file abc.wav, don' forget to type the extension .wav

microsoft vista english updated translations ---did not fix issue........

If so, then definitely see if changing the name manually fixes it, and if the problem goes away in a current build.
im using the latest nightly build --- cant save as midi or wav or mp3----all are exported as PDF..
Changing the file name works !!!!

Not sure whether we can fix this, considering that XP and Viste are no longer supported?
i changed the File Name from the score name and it worked for all --
