Ubuntu 9.10, Mscore 0.9.6 2892M

Translation:
Ubuntu 9.10, MuseScore 0.9.6 2892M
Sometimes, the 'save as' dialog is empty.
Fortunatly, it does not happen when MuseScore has been opened recently.

I asked for more info on the french forum or here in english

Working on a music sheet, and calling Save as, then comes an empty windows instead of a file selector....

Will try to think to take a photo next time it happens.

Only occurs after some time working with Musescore

I have this problem too, I had it also with beta version, now I'm using 0.9.6. but the bug is still present.
When I try to save the note sheet using Save As (or Save a copy), save as dialog pops up, but it is completely blank (it's only a decorated window with nothing in it).

When I run MuseScore from terminal, I get this (I'm using Ubuntu Studio, based on Lucid):

~$ mscore
link SVGID_3_ hasn't been detected!
link SVGID_3_ hasn't been detected!
registerPlugin: add action idx 11
Load plugin: no menu property
preferences.checkUpdateStartup: 720
lastupdate: 18.06.2010 18:22:10.899
link SVGID_3_ hasn't been detected!
:line:39 col:20 Style:museScore:: Unknown Node , type 1
:line:40 col:24 Style:museScore:: Unknown Node , type 1

I thought also that maybe it could be a Qt related problem, but I'm not sure.
This happens to me every time I try to save a note sheet, so basically I'm not able to use MuseScore for any work now.

export QT_NO_GLIB=1 didn't solve it in my case, save dialog is still empty (and a big window instead of small)

I had the same problem, blank dialogs on file I/O, both read and write. The problem disappeared when I started jackd before running mscore. Giving a cursory glance to an strace, it looks like mscore may be trying to suspend the audo before proceeding with any I/O, but gets confused if it can't find any audio system. Thus it hangs and doesn't continue with the file save or open dialog.

I have the same problem with 0.9.6.2 on Lucid, only that it happens all the time. I mean, I have never seen the dialogs, not just once. Both, "save" and "save as" dialogs are completely empty whenever I call them.

Update 1: if I enable Jack in Preferences>IO, then both dialogs finally appear. However, Jack doesn't seem to work. Can't get any sound at all when using it. Is there a tutorial of how to set up Jack with Musescore?

Update 2: I forgot to say my version of ubuntu is actually ubuntustudio. Would that have anything to do with the problem?

I had this issues also with Ubuntu Studio, then I switched to Fedora + CCRMA and it worked without problems. So maybe you should consider changing the distro, in my own experience many other things worked better with Fedora.

It doesn't happen in Ubuntu only (I use MMeerkat 10.10)
On my netbook I use Crunchbang Statler.
Previously Crunchbang was a sort of fork from Ubuntu, but the present alfa Statler is pure Debian based.

There I also have a blank "save as" window in musescore.
Also the "open" gives a "load score" window which is partially blank (a quarter is visible).
Clicking on the explorer part that's visible, brings the complete window frames into vision, but clicking the drop down box of "all supported files" doesn't change that option (can't select "all files" or other).
"cancel" is the button that does work there :-(

I followed your advice and downloaded Fedora too.
Here the "save as" works good, but I don't have sound, nor does the play-button do anything.
EDIT: found I had to put "hw:0" in device for sound; it works now :-)

Hi there,
I have the same problem with the Save dialog. Here is a screenshot taken when I'm pushing Archivo -> Guardar (File -> Save).
My machine runs with Ubuntu LTS 10.04 -Lucid Lynx- and has Jack* installed (but really is not being used for any MIDI/sound application or similar...).
If i could contribute to the solution with giving more information, please contact me.
greetings

*version: 0.118+svn3796-1ubuntu2 (libjack0)

-----edited--------
The Save dialog works fine if I activate Jack, and restart MuseScore -more screenshots attached-.

pjespinosa, Did you try turning the JACK preference on and off a couple times to confirm that it really is the cause?

I installed JACK on Ubuntu to try to reproduce. I still have a normal save dialog.

I have the same issue with Ubuntu 9.10, running 0.9.6

I tried ticking and unticking Jack's audio server in I/O preferences, and having it activated systematically solves the issue, making the save and open dialogs display perfectly. However I do not run jack in my computer, so this "solution" makes musescore produce no sound.

However, in my case, leaving Jack audio server deactivated and deactivating also the third option (portaudio), leaving only the second one on (Audio ALSA) makes everything work beautifully (that is, I have sound in musescore, and also the open and save dialogs work correctly). Doing so even made the notes which are being played correctly be colored and the blue vertical bar follow the music, something that did not work before. I guess this is just a workaround that happens to work for me, and not a definite fix. Hope this can help somebody else in the same situation.

@santo THANK YOU!! yes, it works for me too :-)
EDIT: I smiled too soon - "save as" makes Musescore crash now every time...

I can reproduce the empty save dialog on debian using todays branch.
Changing the Jack option consistently brings up an empty "save as" dialog the next time.
A restart repairs the dialog, no matter if jack is checked or not, and "save as" in empty again if the jack option is changed, no matter if checked or unchecked.
This is strange.

Being the first author in this issue, I want to state that, now using either version 1.0.0, either version 2.0.0 I have no more problem....
so, just let you upgrade!

Title Save dialog empty Empty popup dialogs.

Also when I click the Print Dialog, and click the ellipsis (...) part to open the file browser, it is empty.

When I try to use the script debugger, it says to type "help all" for a list of commands. When I do, it says:

SyntaxError: Parse error

Hours of work wasted! How disappointing!
