Do you mean the numeric keyboard - the one containing only numbers? If so, have you customzied your shortcuts in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts to use these rather than / in addition to the standard keys?
Not just Linux, it also depends on your particular keyboard. If the numeric keypad sends different key codes than the standards keys, then you need to customize your shortcuts i. ed / Preferences to use your numeric keypad.

I had Mint Raphaella (now I have Kubuntu) .....no problem.... however I remember that I had some difficulties, and don,t remember exactly which....
Could hiamsfuss give an exact description of what happens ?
thank you, I mean effectively the numeric pad, nothing happens even after restoring all default settings...
IIRC in the Linux version of MuseScore need to add the number shortcuts explicitly, so factory reset ain't gonna help
