Mixer assigns Random Sounds to Different Instruments When Opening Scores

Whenever I open a MIDI or mscz file, all of the sounds are jumbled up i.e., Violins now have the Marimba sound, but most of the times it just assigns the instrument the regular piano sound. I can change the sounds in the mixer to whichever ones I want, but as soon as I put in a soundfont or open the score again, I lose everything I've changed concerning the sounds, which is really bothersome considering all of my orchestrations are now giant piano solos for 10 hands. Is anyone else having this problem or am I the only one? Can anyone help me?

Is this happening within your computer, or is it only happening when you upload the score to the MuseScore server? Playback within your computer itself should take account of the soundfonts you have loaded and selected in the F10 mixer; but playback from the MuseScore server only recognises the current 'default' soundfont, so any changes you have made in the F10 mixer won't be recognised and playback could be anything.

I am not an expert on this, but I have had issues with playback from the server and the problem was what I described. If you are having problems with playback within your computer, all I can think of is that MuseScore isn't finding the additional soundfont files you have loaded for some reason. Perhaps you loaded them into a directory that MuseScore doesn't expect? I don't know. Someone like Marc Sabatella or Church Organist could probably help you better than I can on this issue.

If you have not changed the 'sound' for any of the instruments in the F10 mixer, Musescore should play back using the default 'Tim' soundfont that comes with 2.0.x. I don't know what to say if that's not the case. The guys that understand the code in the program would be better placed to advise you.

This sounds like a problem with the configuration of your soundfonts, or perhaps something that has gone wrong in some specific score - in general, of course sounds should stay the same. In the future, it is better to use the support forum to help diagnose where a problem is, and only submit a bug report if/when it is confirmed that there really is a bug and there are reproduce steps that others can follow to reproduce the problem.

Meanwhile, though, let's try to understand the problem better here. Please attach the specific score you are having problems with, and given precise steps to reproduce the problem. If you are using soundfonts other than the default (which, btw, is FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3), please tell us what they are and in what order they are loaded.
