1. Open attached score.
2. Hold Shift and Command.
3. Click on any rest.

Result: Beams in the following bar connect.

Discussion: Doing step 3 repeatedly will connect and disconnect the beams.

To make it short, the beaming behaviour changes from one layout to the other.

Here's another set of steps:

1. Open attached score (produced in 1.2).
2. 'Select All'.

2. Move note.

2. Click on bar 1.
3. 'Copy'.
4. 'Paste'.

Result: Beaming changes.

There could be other things.
