Open the attached file. Note the ottava spanning measures 10-11.

  1. The continuation text reads left-aligned in the Inspector, but is not left-aligned in the score.
  2. Change the End hook to -0.5, then close and reopen the file.
Result: The hook resets to 0.5.

I see it being set to right-aligned in Inspector, both, Begin text and Contiunue Text. In Score there is no continue text, as there is no system break bewteen measure 10 and 11.
The end-hook indeed doesn't change, but I guess that is on purpose, because it is an Ottava alta, an Ottava bassa has the hook the other way round.

I'm inclined to call this 'By Design'

JJS commented, "In Score there is no continue text, as there is no system break between measure 10 and 11."

Have another look. The new system starts at measure 11.

"The end-hook indeed doesn't change, but I guess that is on purpose, because it is an Ottava alta, an Ottava bassa has the hook the other way round."

That's a regression from 2.x, and doesn't provide for cases where the player wants to apply the ottava only to one voice in the staff (as in this case). The end hook can be customised if the text is left at the default "8", but reverts to a default hook (depending on vertical placement) if the text is customised.

It does now, after you changed it to add a system break...
It is a completly different file that the one you initially posted, like it used a custom text "8va" rather than "<sym>ottava</sym>" or "<sym>ottavaAlta</sym>", like then unticking the 'only numbers' box. To me it very much looks like you're abusing the system, forcing it to do something it isned designed to do.

Edit: I take back that the file got changed, I was looking at the from ottava before, the one in measure 12/13.
Still those custom texts and this looks like abuse

There is a workaround. If you set the alignment to "Above", then drag the line below the staff, you can set the hook to point upwards. However, since, 8va lines should really only be applied above the staff, I'll close the thread and reopen another for the remaining issue.
