I don't understand the request at all... but here is what I gather from the discussion on IRC.
If you open Song.mscz, Song.xml, etc, you wouldn't know which is which. The file location does briefly appear at the bottom of the software when the score is opened. Maybe that could be pernament.
Some remarks
When you open anything but a MuseScore file, you are not working on the MusicXML, MIDI etc file, but on a in memory copy, if you press Save, you will/should be prompted to save it as MSCZ. So it makes no sense to display the extension of the file you opened (in fact you imported it...)
Once the file has been saved once, the full path could be displayed in the status bar or on windows and linux in the window title bar.
Location of file should appear somewhere when file is saved

Location of file should appear somewhere when it is opened and saved
You still might not know what file you've just opened that you're about to work from/on, if they have the same name. Example:
A task has been given to me: Someone sends me Song.xml, because they want me to copy certain things into Song.mscz - the latter they also sent. However, I don't know which one is which within the software.
Once the file has been saved as mscz (or the last Save As), the location could change to direct to that file - I agree.
Fwiw, I've always maintained that open & save should be reserved for msc[zx], with other formats read and written via separate import and export menu items. And the common behavior of many other programs is that imported files open as "untitled". I think this model would clear up a good deal of confuision. But failing that, sure, status bar display of filename makes sense.
It would be very useful to see the location of the score we're currently editing.
I sometimes have multiple files with the same name but in different folders, so it's not easy to know which file I'm really editing.
A workaround is to open File | Print and look at the path automatically filled in the field Output file.
The location of the file may be displayed on the status bar, the title bar or in a dialog, for example in File | Info (not as an editable field but as a read only information, for example in the top).
I would find having the full path of the file I'm working on displayed somewhere extremely helpful as Windows 8.1 defaults to opening the folder that you last saved to rather than that of the file you are working on when using the Save As dialogue.
Consequently it is very easy to save a version in the wrong folder, resulting in constantly having to use search for lost files, with the consequent drop in working efficiency.
This is particularly necessary as the full path of a file is no longer displayed in the Recent Files list.

File path is available in File / Score Properties.
